Michigan’s 2019 No-Fault Law created the option to opt out of PIP medical coverage for named insureds enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B. But your own enrollment alone doesn’t settle it. Your spouse and any other relative living in your household must also have qualified health coverage or PIP medical coverage through their own separate auto insurance policy.
So, say your adult son moves back home. If he doesn’t have qualifying coverage, the door to your own opt-out closes. This selection must also be made on a state-approved form, not simply by phone to your auto insurance agent.
